Alley and Danforth lead Stearns past PCHS

GUILFORD— Alisyn Alley had four hits in the leadoff spot and only allowed three hits in the circle to lead Stearns to a 13-3 win over Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) on Wednesday afternoon.

Stearns jumped out to a quick lead when Alley and Natalie Michaud started the game with hits. Stearns took advantage of two Pirates first inning errors to take a 1-0 lead. PCHS (5-4) responded with two first inning runs. Meaghan Lemieux hit a single that scored Martina Hill. Lemieux scored on a RBI grounder from Aliyah Ouellette.

Stearns took a lead they wouldn’t give back when they put three on the board in the second inning. They took advantage of two errors and got hits again from Alley and Michaud.

Stearns (8-1) put runs on the board in each of the first six innings, including putting the game away with four runs in the fifth inning. That was sparked by five straight hits. The bottom of the order started things with singles from Makayla Anderson, Kelly Farber, Deanna Newbury, and Audrey Danforth.

While the bats were pounding out hits, Alley was taking care of things in the circle. After allowing hits to the first two batters, she only allowed three base runners (one hit) the rest of her outing. Alley allowed two runs (one earned), three hits, two walks, while striking out three in five innings. Alley threw 61 pitches (41 strikes). Katie Kenyon pitched the final two innings.

Alley scored three runs and had two stolen bases. Danforth had three hits and four RBI, including a double. Michaud had three hits and one RBI. Anderson had two hits and three runs scored. Katie Kenyon had two hits, Kasey Kenyon had one hit and two RBI. Farber and Newbury each scored two runs. Maisey Girsa had one RBI.

Hill led the Pirates attack with three hits, one run scored, and one RBI. Lemieux had one hit, one run scored, and one RBI. Ouellette and Lauren Robinson had one hit each. Sam Goodwin scored one run. Mackenzie Kain allowed 13 runs (eight earned) on 17 hits, she didn’t issue a walk and struck out six. Kain threw 106 pitches (87 strikes).
