Harrisburg, PA- The Portland Sea Dogs shutout the Harrisburg Senators 2-0 in the series finale at FNB Field on Sunday afternoon. Portland pitchers combined for the second shutout of the series allowing eight hits and did not allow a walk.
Matthew Kent (4-0) hurled 6.0 shutout innings allowing six hits and striking out three and was awarded the win for Portland. Tim Cate (1-3) was given the loss tossing 5.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking three and striking out four, as the Senators dropped to 10-19. Jose Adames earned his eighth save of the season pitching 1.1 shutout innings with two strikeouts. He continues to lead the Double-A Northeast Leagues in saves.
The Sea Dogs (18-12) plated their first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Jhonny Pereda hit a double to deep left centerfield. The very next batter Joey Meneses also hit a double and drove home Pereda for the only run they needed. In the top of the sixth inning Tanner Nishioka led off with a double to left field, then advanced to third on a fielding error by the centerfielder Carlos Tocci. With Nishioka at third, Michael Osinski hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to end the scoring on the day.
The Sea Dogs have the day off Monday before returning to Hadlock Field on Tuesday at 6:00pm to open up a six game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
