Ana Lang earns fourth athlete of the week honor

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 339 past athlete of the week winners.

This week we had four Rowells Garage female athlete of the week nominations.  Ana Lang helped the Searsport Vikings softball team to the class D state championship. It is the fourth athlete of the week honor for Lang.

Female athlete of the week- June7th-June 13th

  • Ana Lang- Searsport- softball- allowed two hits and one run on one walk and 13 strikeouts, including striking out the side each of the first four innings in 13-1 quarterfinal (five inning) quarterfinal  win over Greenville. Pitched a no hitter with one walk and 20 strikeouts and also had two hits, including a double in 4-1 semifinal win over Buckfield.

Runner up

  • Avery Herrick- Dexter- softball- allowed one run on two hits, didn’t issue a walk and struck out 11, also reached base three times with two hits, including a double and two RBI in 13-1 quarterfinal win over Fort Kent.  Allowed one run on five hits, didn’t issue a walk and struck out six plus belted a two run homer in 5-1 semifinal win over Bucksport.

Other nominations

  • Izzy Allen- Central- softball- went 3-3 with a double, four stolen bases, two runs scored, and two RBI in 9-1 semifinal win over Houlton.
  • Jenna Smith- Bangor- softball- hit game winning homer in the 8th inning and hit a double in 4-3 quarterfinal win over Messalonskee. Hit a home run in 8-4 semifinal win over Brunswick.
