Tampa Bay wins second straight Stanley Cup Championship

July 7, 2021

Ross Colton scored the only goal of the game Wednesday night, and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 22 shots in net as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Montreal Canadiens 1-0 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, Florida. The Lightning win the series 4-1 to claim their second straight Stanley Cup.

Colton scored his fourth goal of the playoffs and the game winner at 13:27 of the second period on assists from Ryan McDonagh and David Savard. Vasilevskiy had a shutout in all four of the clinching games for Tampa Bay in the playoffs, and earned the Conn Smythe Trophy (Cup Finals MVP). Carey Price would stop 29 of 30 shots in the loss, as Montreal finishes their season with a final record of 37-30-11. The Canadiens were playing in their first Cup Finals since they won it over Los Angeles in 1993.

The Lightning hoist the Cup again after winning it last season over the Dallas Stars, and finish this campaign with a record of 52-24-3. Tampa becomes the first team to repeat as champion since the Pittsburgh Penguins did it in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
