Howler girls collect third straight win

September 11, 2021

At Howland, Sophomore Ashlyn St. Cyr scored two goals and had an assist, as Penobscot Valley improved to 3-0, beating Schenck 5-1 Saturday.

The Howlers struck just 7 minutes into the game, following a near Schenck miss at the other end.  St. Cyr collected the ball to the left of the 18 yard line, and sent a low cross to the middle, where Ellie Austin one-touched it past goalie Brooklyn McAvoy.
Ten minutes later, PV finished another left side cross, this time it was St. Cyr scoring from Lila Cummings’ pass.  The Howlers would add one more in the first half, when Maggie LeBlanc received a Julia Durost corner kick, quickly turned, and scored with her opposite foot.
St. Cyr was quick to get the scoring started in the second half as well, as she converted a LeBlanc assist past the goalie for her second of the game.  Rebecca Carson finished out the scoring for Penobscot Valley, by ripping a direct kick into the ball-side corner of the net.
Hannah Sewall rifled home a breakaway goal for Schenck with under a minute left in the game, to snap the Howler’s streak of scoreless defense to start the season at two hundred thirty nine minutes.
PVHS’ Emilee Ireland stopped 6 of 7 shots, as the team improved to 3-0 and will face Penquis on Tuesday.  McAvoy turned away 16 of 30 shots for the Wolverines, who dropped to 0-2 and will visit the Greenville Lakers next.
