Martinez, Eovaldi help Red Sox break four game slide

JD Martinez drove in three runs and Nathan Eovaldi pitched 6.0 strong innings, as the Boston Red Sox broke a four game losing streak with a 6-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards Wednesday night.

Martinez hit a solo homerun to centerfield with one out in the second inning, and later added a two-run double in the sixth to pace Boston (89-69) to the win. Alex Verdugo added a two out, two-run single with the bases loaded in the eighth and Hunter Renfoe hit a solo homer in the ninth. The Sox had 13 hits after only three in a 4-2 loss to Baltimore on Tuesday night.

Eovaldi (11-9) allowed no runs on four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. Ryan Brasier, Hansel Robles, and Matt Barnes each pitched a hitless and scoreless inning. Martinez had three hits, while Rafael Devers, Verdugo, and Jose Iglesias had two each. Zac Lowther (1-3) pitched well in the defeat for the Birds allowing just two runs (one earned) on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Last place Baltimore falls to 51-107. The rubber game of the series is Thursday night at 7:05 with Nick Pivetta (9-7, 4.52 ERA) on the hill for the Sox, against Alexander Wells (1-3, 7.61) for the Orioles. Boston now has just four regular season games remaining.
