The Husson University men’s and women’s soccer teams have both had a superb fall season so far. The Eagles kept that going Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field, taking both ends of the doubleheader over visiting SUNY-Canton to stay unbeaten in North Atlantic Conference play.
In the women’s contest, Megan Buddemeyer scored at the 15th minute for Husson and that is all they ended up needing in a 5-0 win. Kate Harriman added a late first half goal, while Shannon Dowd, Emily Helgerson, and Charlotte Messer added second half tallies for the Eagles. Shie Smith saved the only shot she faced on the day for the shutout in goal, as Husson improves to 7-3-2 overall and 6-0-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. Skylar Williams and Samantha Hayes combined to make eight saves on 13 shots on goal for SUNY-Canton (2-7-1, 2-3-0).
In the men’s game, Arni Hreidarsson scored the game winner in the 74th minute despite Husson being down a man as the Eagles picked up a 5-4 win over the Kangaroos. A very back and forth game saw the hosts take the lead on a penalty kick by Jordi Cabau Limens at the 14th minute. Ellis Sanchez tied it for SUNY-Canton about seven minutes later, but the Eagles extended to a 3-1 lead when Limens and Hreidarsson scored about six minutes apart. Martin Torales cut it to 3-2 at the half when he scored at the 44th minute for the ‘Roos. Limens got his second penalty kick goal two minutes in the second half to make it a 4-2 game, but it was the visitors getting the next two to tie it up. Will Austin and Jacob Deuel made it 4-4 at the 50th and 72nd minute. The winner two minutes later by Hreidarsson was unassisted, as Husson improves to 8-2-3, 4-0-1 in the NAC. Benjamin Powell made three saves in net for the Eagles, while Owen Kwong took the loss in net for SUNY-Canton. The Kangaroos fall to 5-6-1, 2-3-1 in NAC play.
