LeBlanc guides PVHS to a victory over Greenville 3-0

October 10, 2021

At Howland Saturday, senior Maggie LeBlanc helped the Howlers control the midfield, and also recorded a goal and an assist to propel Penobscot Valley past Greenville 3-0.

PVHS attacked the net early and often to begin the game, as Laker goaltender Lexi Bjork did her best to keep it scoreless.  Finally, fifteen minutes into the game LeBlanc fired a hard angled shot from beyond the 18 yard line that Bjork deflected.  Freshman Ellie Austin was there to kick it into the back of the net from there.
Just six minutes later, eighth grader Lila Cumings attacked the left side and sent a cross that Bjork also got a hand on, but a streaking Ashlyn St. Cyr quickly finished it for the goal.  The score would remain 2-0 at halftime.
With Penobscot Valley controlling possession during the second half, the Lakers did a good job of keeping them from scoring.  With 11 minutes remaining however, freshman defender Allie LeBlanc intercepted a pass near midfield and quickly found her older sister Maggie.  Maggie zipped past some Greenville players and pivoted by the endline, where her hard and low lining cross struck a retreating defender that deflected into the net for the game’s 3rd and final goal.
Emilee Ireland of PVHS stopped the one shot she faced, as she recorded her 8th shutout of the year and her team improves to 9-1.  The Howlers will travel to PCHS on Tuesday.  Greenville’s Lexi Bjork saved 18 of 55 shots, who drop to 3-4 and will travel to Penquis of Milo on Monday.
