The Boston Bruins gave the Buffalo Sabres their first loss of the season on Friday night in Buffalo, while the Boston Celtics fell to 0-2 after being blown out in Boston in their home opener by the Toronto Raptors.
Charlie Coyle had a goal and two assists, and Linus Ullmark had 35 saves against his former team as the Bruins beat the Sabres 4-1 at Keybank Center in Buffalo.
David Pastrnak and Tomas Nosek both had their first goals of the season in the first period to make it 2-0, before Coyle got his first on the powerplay in the second to extend the lead to three. Victor Olofsson had the lone goal in the third for Buffalo (3-1-0), and Taylor Hall had the other Bruins goal also in the third period. Hall added as assist, and Brad Marchand also had two points with two assists on the night for Boston (2-1-0). The Bruins will host the San Jose Sharks on Sunday at 1 p.m.
At TD Garden, the Toronto Raptors outscored the Celtics by 28 in the second half and ran away with a 115-83 victory in the home opener for Boston.
Toronto (1-1) took their first lead about three minutes into the second quarter and never trailed again, using a 33-17 bulge in the third to start pulling away leading by as many as 36 in the fourth. Rookie Scottie Barnes led the Raptors with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Boston (0-2) was led by Jayson Tatum who had 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists. The Celtics are in Houston to battle the Rockets on Sunday at 7 p.m.
