Wisdom wins regional championships as Lady Howler’s season comes to an end in the Northern Maine Championship

November 4, 2021

At Presque Isle on Tuesday, Penobscot Valley’s 11 game shutout and winning streak came to an end, as the Wisdom Pioneers won the Northern Maine Championship 3-0.

The last time the Howlers had allowed a goal was over a month ago, on September 30th against Central of East Corinth.
Wisdom wasted no time getting things started, as midfielder Paige LaBrie passed the ball to Olivia Ouellette, who shot from beyond the 18 yard line and into the right corner of the net.  Less than 2 minutes later Ouellette struck from distance again, this time off a pass from Abbie Lerman.  Lerman finished the scoring in the second half when she finished an Ouellette pass past PV keeper Emilee Ireland, one on one.  Penobscot Valley (unofficially) outshot the Pioneers 22-16, but just couldn’t put any in the net.
With the loss, the Howlers finished the season with a record of 15-2.   It was the last game for seniors Rebecca Carson, Julia Durost, Ali Gilman, Emilee Ireland, and Maggie LeBlanc. Other team members of the 2021 Class D Northern Maine Runner-ups are juniors Holly Loring, Kaya Loring, sophomores Mia Neal, Emma Potter, Ashlyn St. Cyr, freshmen Ellie Austin, Shay Ireland, Allie LeBlanc, and 8th graders Olivia Cote, Lila Cummings, Savannah Durost, Rylee Moulton, and Lauryn Smart.
