Colby stays unbeaten taking down cold shooting Husson

Colby College put four players in double figures, and the Husson Eagles only shot 31% from the floor Tuesday night as the visiting Mules took a 68-56 non-conference women’s basketball win at Newman Gymnasium in Bangor.

In a very tightly contested first half, Colby (3-0) led 18-15 after one quarter and 31-24 at the break as Husson was ice cold from the field in the first 20 minutes hitting just 11-38 (29%) that included 2-21 from the three-point arc. The Mules broke it open some in the second half leading by as many as 19, as the Eagles leading scorer Bailey Donovan got into some foul trouble.

Donovan led all scorers in the loss for Husson (2-2) with 29 points and 13 rebounds on 11-14 shooting. Sydney Allen chipped in eight points, while Makaelyn Porter and Trinity Montigny each contributed five points a piece. Caroline Smith had 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals for Colby in the win. Colby has now won nine of the last 11 meetings with Husson. Adaobi Nebuwa added 15 points and six rebounds, while Carter McGloon and Carly Christofori ended with 13 and 10 points respectively. The Mules shot 53% from the floor and 7-16 from the three-point arc. The Eagles ended up at just 9% from long range (3-33). Husson is back at home again on Saturday when they play host to Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) at 3 p.m.
