December 19, 2021

At Guilford Saturday, Penobscot Valley’s Ryan Thompson scored 21 points to help propel the Howlers over Piscataquis Community 49-34.

A back and forth 1st half found PVHS up by 3 at the break, 17-14.  Thompson (8) and Gabe Reed (6) accounted for most of the Howler points, while Andy Williams also hit a 3-pointer.  The Chadbourne brothers Scott (6) and Matt (5) did their part to keep the Pirates in the game, while Ty Cobb netted 3 points.
The third quarter was all Penobscot Valley, as they turned up the defensive pressure and outscored PCHS 16-3, with five different scorers.  The teams essentially played an even final quarter, with the home team holding a 17-16 edge in the frame.
Thompson had a double-double with his game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Williams finished with nine points.  Gabe Reed (8) and Colin Dunn (7) also had solid scoring nights, while Gabe Castonguay and Kaden Loring each scored a basket.  Castonguay also ended the game tallying 13 rebounds.  The Howlers went 16-19 from the free throw line.  The win improves PVHS to 2-1 on the young season, and they are set to host Penquis on Tuesday.
Scott Chadbourne had an outstanding game, finishing with 19 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter alone. Matt Chadbourne scored 8, Cobb had 3, while Alex Lyon and Dawson Simpson each scored 2.  The loss drops the Pirates to 1-1, as they travel to Dexter on Monday.
