Seniors Williams and Thompson lead PVHS to win over PCHS

January 15, 2022

At Howland Thursday, Andy Williams erupted for a career-high 20 points and Ryan Thompson netted 16 more as Penobscot Valley cruised past Piscataquis Community 49-25.

Williams offense and the stout Howler defense was the story of the first quarter.  He knocked down three 3-pointers during the frame and also followed up his own miss with a layup en route to scoring all 11 of PVHS’ points.  The defense held the Pirates to only one basket, taking an 11-2 lead.  During the second quarter, Thompson took over the scoring load, dropping seven points.  Gabe Castonguay also scored in the second, as Penobscot Valley took a 20-5 lead into the half.  PCHS got scoring from Scott Chadbourne (2), Alex Lyon (2), and Matt Chadbourne (1).
The third quarter was very competitive, with the Howlers outscoring the Pirates 12-11. Once again Thompson led the way with eight points, fighting off defenders and finishing strong around the hoop.  Scott Chadbourne did his best to keep his team close, scoring five points in the period.  Williams heated up in the fourth, hitting two more 3-pointers and scoring nine of his teams 17 points to close out the game.
In addition to 20 from Williams and 16 frkm Thompson, PVHS also got scoring contributions from Gabe Castonguay (5), Colin Dunn (4), Gabe Reed (2), and Caleb Moon (2). Thompson also had 11 rebounds, while Reed tallied four steals and five assists.  The Howlers improved to 5-3 and are scheduled to travel to Greenville on Monday.
PCHS was led by Scott Chadbourne who had seven points, but also received scoring from Trevor Hathorn (5), Buddy Hutchins (4), Matt Chadbourne (3), Dawson Simpson (2), Ty Cobb (2), and Alex Lyon (2). The Pirates drop to 1-6 and host the Stearns Minutemen on Saturday.
