Maine men’s hockey beats Boston College

January 28, 2022

Adam Dawe scored what turned out to be the game winning goal in the first period Friday night, as the Maine Black Bears defeated the Boston College Eagles 4-1 in men’s Hockey East action at the Alfond Arena in Orono. The win is the first conference victory for Maine in regulation on the year.

Jakub Sirota and Dawe would tally at 6:39 and 16:07 of the opening period for a 2-0 Maine lead, only their second 2-0 lead in any game at any point this season. Marc McLaughlin cut that deficit in half though with a rebound goal at 6:44 of the second period for BC, and it was 2-1 headed to the third. The Black Bears hit the post on two different occasions during the final period before Grant Hebert would poke home a rebound at 14:10, and he finished off the night with an empty netter at 19:26 to seal it.

Hebert led the way with his two goals and also added an assist. Sirota had two points with a goal and an assist, and David Breazeale also was a multiple point scorer with two helpers. Keenan Suthers, Jack Quinlivan, and Nolan Rewick had one assist each. Victor Ostman made 32 saves in net, as Maine improves to 4-14-4 and 2-10-2 in Hockey East play. The only other conference win was in overtime against Merrimack back on November 12. Eric Dop stopped 33 shots in the cage in the loss for the Eagles, as their record drops to 10-11-4 and 5-8-3 in HE. Boston College is on a seven game winless streak. Maine hits the road next week for a two game weekend starting Friday night with a matchup at Boston University, and a Saturday night battle at Merrimack College with the Warriors.
