Kirstie Mower a key part of Dexter’s cheerleading success

February 13, 2022

On Saturday afternoon, the Dexter cheerleading squad finished as runner up to Lisbon in the class C championships at the Augusta Civic Center.

Dexter coach Kirstie Mower has been a huge part of the Tigers recent success. Mower’s first year coaching in 2020, she coached the team to a sixth place regional win and a 10th place state finish. Her second year, the team was fifth place at regionals and fifth place at states.  After not reaching the states for several seasons before Mower arrived in 2020. the Tigers not only advanced to the states for the third straight season, they finished second  (by .2 even with a 3 point deduction) and now the team will most likely be making Dexter’s first ever appearance at the New England championships in March. This years team finished third at regionals on February 5th. The Tigers also was named Class C North sportsmanship award winner.

Mower’s assistant coach is her sister Danielle Mower. The roster includes senior Jennifer Young, juniors Cristin Warner, Tiffany Heinrichs, and Elyssa Jerome, sophomore Kenzie Trafton, and a strong freshmen class of Izzie Roberts, Andrea Gilman, Kenzie Kimball, Alyvia Dorman, and Amelia Greaves.

Not only is the current team doing things that haven’t been done in years at Dexter, the future is very bright with Mower leading the way and a strong underclassmen group, including a freshmen group of five that will be part of the squad for the next three years.
