Southern Aroostook girls start fast, cruise to quarterfinal win

BANGOR- The top seeded and undefeated Southern Aroostook Warriors scored 38 first quarter points on Monday afternoon, and never looked back in a 76-27 Class D girls North quarterfinal win over the Shead Tigerettes at the Cross Insurance Center.

Southern Aroostook (19-0) used some early full court pressure defense that led to them scoring the first 24 points of the game. Madison Russell had 12 points, Madison Shields with 10, and Cami Shields eight in the opening eight minutes as the Warriors led 38-2 and never let Shead back into the game. The biggest lead was 67-10 after three quarters. The Warriors shot 5-8 from the foul line, while the Tigerettes went 2-2.

Madison Russell finished with 21 points, two assists, and four steals. Madison and Cami Shields both ended with 12 points a piece. Ashlee Morang led Shead with a game high 22 points. The Warriors outrebounded the Tigerettes 30-16. The #9 seed Shead ends their season at 7-12. Southern Aroostook with face Schenck on Thursday in a semifinal matchup.
