Southern Aroostook girls advance to fourth straight regional championship game

BANGOR- The three-time defending Class D Northern Maine Champion Southern Aroostook Warriors will try to make it four in a row this Saturday, as they rolled past the Schenck Wolverines 69-23 in a Class D girls semifinal played at the Cross Insurance Center on Thursday afternoon.

Southern Aroostook (20-0) scored the first 16 points of the game and never looked back, building a 24-4 lead after one quarter and a 40-9 halftime lead. Cami Shields had four three-pointers in the first half, and scored 21 of her game high 24 points over the first 16 minutes. Warriors junior guard Madison Russell with two free throws with 4:34 left in the third quarter registered her 1,000th career point.

Madison Shields and Emmalee Landry both scored 11 points in the win, while Russell finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Southern Aroostook outrebounded Schenck 33-20, and the Warriors shot 9-14 from the foul line. Abbigail Perreault had 11 points and four rebounds in the loss for Schenck, who finishes their season at 14-7. The Wolverines went 4-12 from the line. Southern Aroostook will face #2 Wisdom (17-1) in the regional final Saturday at 9 a.m.
