Hermon comes back in the second half to win second straight girls basketball regional championship

BANGOR— The Hermon Hawks turned up the defensive intensity in the second half and defeated top seed Old Town 45-30 to win their second consecutive Class B girls basketball regional championship on Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.

Old Town started quick, making 4 three pointers in the first quarter and took a 13-6 lead on a Sydney Loring shot from behind the arc.

Hermon outscored Old Town 8-7 in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 20-14 heading into halftime on an Elizabeth Wyman basket late in the first half.

Meg Tracy made a huge impact, especially in the second half. Her minutes were limited due to a pair of injuries, but she was able to record three points, four rebounds, one block, and opened things up for her teammates.

Hermon took their first lead (28-27) when Faith Coombs made a three pointer with 7:40 left in the fourth quarter. The Hawks never looked back as they ended the game on a 24-3 run.

Madelynn Emerson had nine points to lead the Coyotes. Makayla Emerson and Sydney Loring each had eight points. Old Town finishes the season with a 20-2 record.

Maddie Lebel had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists to lead the Hawks. Wyman had 11 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Hermon (20-2) will play Oceanside in the Class B state championship game at the Cross Insurance Center on Friday, March 4th at 7:05 PM.
