John Bapst 2022 high school baseball preview

April 5, 2022

The John Bapst Crusaders baseball team will have an experienced group of juniors and seniors as they try and build on a 6 win 2021 season.

“We lost three players from last year’s team and we look to make improvements on our performance from a year ago with a roster full of juniors and seniors.” John Bapst coach Jason O’Reilly said.

The strength for the Crusaders will be the pitching staff. Allen Wheaton is the ace of the strong staff.

“Our strength will be our pitching, with 5 pitchers capable of competing every day, including Allen Wheaton, who I think will vie for pitcher of the year in the conference,”O’Reilly said. “He was dominant last spring and is headed to Husson to pitch after this season.”

The Crusaders will need to produce more offensively if they are going to improve on their 2021 season.

“With a ’21 squad that struggled to score runs on a consistent basis, I’m looking to the veteran group to make gains on the offensive side of the ball,”O’Reilly said.  “This is the biggest question for us going into the ’22 season.”

The Crusaders are scheduled to open the regular season at Ellsworth on April 26th. The home opener is scheduled May 2nd against MDI.
