Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had eight Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Hayden Strout came up big with his arm in throwing a no hitter in a Central win over George Stevens. The freshman came up big with his bat in a win over PCHS. It is the second athlete of the week honor for Strout. He also won two weeks ago
May 15th-May 21st
- Hayden Strout- Central- baseball- threw a no hitter with 15 strikeouts and had two hits, including a homer in 5-0 win over George Stevens. Reached base three times with two walks and a double in 7-6 win over PCHS.
Runner up
- Peyton Vose- Old Town- baseball- had a double, homer, four RBI, and was the winning pitcher in 11-0 win over Foxcroft. Had three hits, including a double, homer, and three RBI in 9-5 win over Foxcroft.
Other nominations
- Jake Guty- Bucksport- baseball- pitched a two hitter with 17 strikeouts in 6-1 win over George Stevens.
- Eliot Shearer- Stearns – baseball- The Senior Captain had a 462 Batting Average to help the Minutemen to a 3-1 record this week. Versus Penobscot Valley Eliot went 3-4 with 3 RBIs in addition to several inning ending putouts at Shortstop.
- Jack Morris- Stearns- baseball- Morris had a 500 batting average this past week, with two Doubles. Versus Penquis Valley he pitched the last 2 innings in relief to get the win in a come from behind win 17-16. Plus Morris had a Double that drove in the tying run and then scored the winning run.
- Aidan Sanders- Stearns – baseball- Sanders had a 300 batting average this past week. Versus Schenck Sanders went 1-2 with a triple and versus Penobscot Valley he got the win and shut down the Howlers in the first 4 innings with no hits and no runs and 6 strikeouts.
- Cam Rich -Bucksport – baseball – went 3 for 4, with 3 singles and 1 run scored in 10-0 win over Central. Pitched 2 innings with two strikeouts and no walks and went 2-5 with a triple and single, walk and hit by pitch, 2 runs scored plus an RBI in 22-0 win over Sumner. Had a single and 3 RBI in 6-1 win over GSA.
- David Baugh – Ellsworth – Baseball – Improved to 4-0 on the mound, earning a 13-3 win over Washington Academy. Baugh had two singles, a triple and two RBI at the plate for the Eagles.
