Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had four Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Hayden Strout had a big day with the bat and on the mound for the Central Red Devils. The freshman joins Max McHugh (5) (1-13-13), Andrew Speed (2) (5-22-17), Jordn Smith (1-18-14), Libby Cook (12-6-15), Sydney Allen (4) (6-3-18), Caleb Shaw (1-1-17),Gage Poulin (4-29-18), James Doucette (2-4-19)
Rylee Speed (2) (9-22-22), Izzy Allen (7) (2-12-22), and Simon Allen (12-15-21) as student/athletes from Central high school that have earned athlete of the week honors.
May 1st-May 7th
- Hayden Strout- Central- baseball- the freshman went 3-7 at the plate driving in three runs including a two run home run in two games. Picked up the pitching win against Dexter striking out 13 in 5 innings.
Runner up
- Hunter Curtis- Ellsworth- baseball- pitched a complete game shutout allowing seven hits and striking out nine in 1-0 win over Bucksport.
Other nominations
- Ty Giberson- Bucksport- baseball- pitched a two hitter in 1-0 loss to Ellsworth.
- Caleb Ryder- Orono- baseball- went 4-4 with four RBI in 12-0 win over Central.
