Machias offense backs Kashman Feeney pitching effort, as the Bulldogs make it back to back regional titles

BANGOR- Kashman Feeney tossed a one-hit shutout on the hill, and the Machias Bulldogs erupted for nine runs in the seventh inning on Tuesday afternoon breaking open a close game as they rolled to an 11-0 victory over the Stearns Minutemen in the Class D North Baseball Regional Championship played at Mansfield Stadium. It is the second straight regional title for Machias.

Machias (16-2) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. Kyle Anderson led off with an infield single, reached second on an error by shortstop Elliot Shearer, stole third, and then scored on a wild pitch. Ethan Libby later added an RBI double in the frame to make it 2-0 Bulldogs. Feeney did his thing on the mound, only allowing a first inning two out single to Jack Morris. The senior only walked one and struckout seven in going the distance to pick up the win. Machias exploded in the seventh to give Feeney more than enough breathing room. Kason Fergerson, Kashman Feeney, and Jayden Rhodes had consecutive hits to start things. Ethan Foss (two-run single), Libby (two-run double), Lucas Robicheau (RBI single) had runs knocked in and then Fergerson and Feeney also knocked in a pair each on their second time at bat as they ended up with nine hits and the nine runs in the inning in sending 13 men to the plate.

Aidan Sanders took the loss for Stearns on the hill allowing eight runs (six earned) on 12 hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts in 6.2 innings. The Minutemen end their season at 14-6. Fergerson had three hits, a RBI, and a walk in the Machias win reaching base four times in five at bats with two runs scored. Libby had three hits and three RBI, while Kashman Feeney, Rhodes, and Foss had two hits a piece. Feeney and Foss also scored twice, with Foss driving in two runs. The Bulldogs (16-2) will face St. Dom’s in the State Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.
