September 4, 2022

The Maine Field Hockey team opened up their 2022 home schedule this weekend with a pair of non-conference games against Dartmouth College and Quinnipiac University at the Maine Field Hockey Complex. The Bears came away with a split with a 5-2 win over the Big Green Friday, followed by a 1-0 loss to the Bobcats on Sunday.

On Friday, Maine got off to a quick 2-0 lead with goals from Mallory Mackesy and Bhreagh Kennedy at 2:47 and 4:34 of the first quarter. After Dartmouth cut it to 2-1, the Black Bears extended it back to a two goal advantage when Chloe Walton notched her first tally of the season and the game winner at 9:13. The Big Green scored the lone goal of the second on a penalty stroke by Myah Pease to slice it to 3-2 at halftime. The hosts put it away with a goal late in the third quarter from Julia Ross, and Mackesy had her second of the game to finish the scoring early in the fourth. Madysn Hartley and Sydney Meader each had an assist in the first win of the season, and Mia Borley returned to play in net for the first time since being injured in the season opener at UMass making four saves on six shots. Dartmouth is 0-2 after a loss to Quinnipiac on Saturday.

On Sunday, Maine owned the shots on goal (10-3) but Quinnipiac got a second quarter goal from Emilia Massarelli to take the win. The hosts also had a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners, but couldn’t find the net on the afternoon as Bobcats goalie Cristina Torres stopped all 10 shots she faced. Borley made two saves on three shots, as Maine falls to 1-3 on the season. QU is now 2-1. The Black Bears are back in action on Friday when they host Hofstra at 3 p.m.
