Lila Cummings leads PVHS girls soccer to win over Lee

September 14, 2022

At Lee, Lila Cummings registered a hat trick and dished out two assists to lead unbeaten Penobscot Valley over Lee Academy 10-0.

Senior captain Kaya Loring got the scoring going early, as she drilled a shot from beyond the 18-yard-line over goalkeeper Harmony Vermanzani’s outstretched arms and into the net.  Just thirty one seconds later, Loring chipped a ball ahead to Rylee Moulton who scored.
The goals would continue for PVHS in the first half, as Cummings scored her first of the game off an assist by Ellie Austin.  Austin scored the game’s fourth goal off a pass from Moulton.  The unselfish passing continued as Moulton set up a second goal by Cummings, followed by a Cummings assist on an Ashlyn St. Cyr goal to make it a 6-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Cummings only needed just over three minutes to complete her hat trick on an unassisted goal. She assisted another Moulton goal later on. A beautiful corner kick by Emma Potter found Addy Lyons, who sent it to Savannah Durost for a goal making it 9-0.  Finally, Austin netted her second of the game this time assisted by Loring to round out the scoring.
Lauryn Smart stopped all six shots she saw, while her and the Howler defense completed their second shutout in a row.  PVHS improves to 3-0 and has outscored their opponents 28-1, and will travel to face 2-0 Woodland on Friday.
Lee Academy’s Vermanzani recorded 15 saves on 27 shots, as the Pandas drop to 0-4.  They travel to Searsport on Monday.
