Maine women’s soccer, field hockey record Sunday afternoon wins

The University of Maine women’s soccer team and field hockey team were both in action at home on Sunday afternoon. The soccer team would pick up an America East victory, while the field hockey team won in non-conference play to extend their win streak.

At Mahaney Diamond, Kayla Kraemer scored a first half goal at 19:45 and the Maine women’s soccer team held Albany without a shot on goal for most of the contest in a 1-0 America East win. Tegan Morrison assisted on the second goal of the season for Kraemer. The Great Danes didn’t get a shot on the net until there was 5:19 left to play. Kira Kutzinski made one save in net in picking up her fifth shutout. The Black Bears (6-2-3, 2-0-2 America East) move into second place in the conference behind Binghamton. Megan Hart made 10 saves for Albany as their record drops to 4-7-2, 2-1-2. Maine is at Vermont on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

At the Maine Field Hockey Complex, Poppy Lambert and Molly Mackesy both scored four goals as #23 Maine rolled over Merrimack College 13-0 in non-conference action. Madisyn Harley had five assists, Mackesy added two assists to her four goal day, Chloe Walton had two goals, Tereza Holubcova had a goal and three assists, Bhreagh Kennedy scored one goal, Julia Ross and Kristjana Walker had two assists each, and Sydney Meader had one assist. Mia Borley played the first half in goal and Mallory Drayer played the second, with each making one save for the combined shutout. Paige DeGeorge made seven saves for the Warriors who fall to 0-10. Maine has now won seven straight games and improve to 8-3 on the season. The Black Bears (3-0 in the conference) will get back into America East play on Friday when they host the University of California at 3 p.m.
