Dexter high school homecoming recap: Tigers split four games

Dexter High School homecoming athletic events started with a boys soccer game on Friday afternoon. The Tigers fell to the Orono Red Riots by a score of 5-2.

The action continued on Saturday morning, as the Tigers and Red Riots went at it again on the soccer field.  The Dexter girls team grabbed a 1-0 win. The only goal came when Sydney Fogler put a corner kick at a perfect spot, Cally Gudroe finished it off with 22:22 remaining in the first half.

Hannah Dean had six saves on 10 shots for the Tigers.  Dexter (7-4) will host Central on Tuesday. Charlie Ann Bun had eight saves on 14 shots for the Red Riots. Orono (4-8) will host Houlton on Tuesday.

The next game featured two undefeated football teams. Dexter rolled to a 54-14 win over Stearns.Click here for the recap. 

Dexter/Stearns football highlights 10/8/2022

The final game of the day was between two of the top field hockey teams in Class C as the Tigers hosted MCI. Before the action got underway, the Dexter/Central team had senior day as it is their last home game of the regular season. Alexis Whitty and Elisa Picariello presented flowers to their families.

The Tigers  jumped out to a lead when Keira Bennett slammed one into the goal on an assist from Picariello with 2:22 remaining in the first quarter.

The Dexter/Central team kept that lead until Ella Bernier evened things up for the Huskies with 7:05 left in the third quarter. Both teams had plenty of opportunities but the defense was strong for each. Tigers goalie Alexis Whitty and Husky keeper Keydaliz Rivera were outstanding, making diving saves. The game ended with a 2-1 Huskies victory when Bernier put in the game winner late in the second overtime.

Dexter (9-3) will finish their regular season with a rematch against the Huskies at MCI on Saturday, October 15th.

MCI (9-1-1) will finish the regular season with three home games. Monday against Maranacook, Wednesday against Nokomis, and Saturday against the Tigers.
