Maine women’s soccer and field hockey win on the road

The University of Maine women’s soccer team and field hockey team were both on the road on Sunday afternoon. The soccer team faced Vermont in America East action, while field hockey tried to extend their win streak in non-conference play at Providence College.

At Burlington, Vermont Abby Kraemer had a penalty kick goal in the first half and then scored the game winner with 12:31 left in the second half as Maine women’s soccer topped Vermont 3-2 in America East action. The Black Bears had the 1-0 halftime lead on the Kraemer penalty kick at the 13:37 mark. Vermont tied it on a goal from Kate Bossert 7:31 into the second half. The host Catamounts had their only lead off the foot of Nicky Constant with 17:50 to play. It took Maine just 56 seconds to even the score 2-2 when Emma Schneider found the back of the net. The winner by Kraemer was assisted by Emma Donovan 4:25 later. Donovan had two assists on the afternoon, and goaltender Kira Kutzinski made four saves in the win. Erin Murphy had six saves in the defeat for Vermont, who falls to 4-7-2 and 0-3-2 in America East. Maine is now 7-2-3 and 3-0-2 in the conference and will play host to UMass-Lowell on Thursday night at 6 p.m.

At Providence, Rhode Island Maine used three different goal scorers to pick up a 3-0 non-conference field hockey win over Providence College. Poppy Lambert had the only goal needed, breaking a scoreless tie with 3:19 left before halftime. Sydney Meader and Chloe Walton added tallies in the third quarter, and Mia Borley picked up her third shutout of the season stopping five shots in net. Lambert had the one goal and also one assist, and Tereza Holubcova also had one assist. Asia Porter made 10 saves in the loss for Providence, as the Friars out of the Big East Conference fall to 5-8. Maine is now 10-3 overall with a nine game winning streak, and take their 4-0 America East record into a conference game at Bryant on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
