Payton Anderson scored three goals on Tuesday evening, as the Boston University Terriers defeated the Maine Black Bears 5-2 in a non-conference field hockey game played at Boston College. The loss by Maine snaps a 10 game win streak.
Anderson scored the first two goals of the game both in the first half as Boston University led at the break 2-0. Tess Csejka tallied twice in the third quarter as the Terriers lead was extended to 4-0. Chloe Walton scored late in the third to put Maine on the board for the first time, and Poppy Lambert cut it to 4-2 with her 17th of the season early in the fourth quarter. BU put it away though on the third goal from Anderson with 1:17 to play.
Mia Borley made seven saves in net in the loss for Maine, while Lambert had one goal and one assist. Tereza Holubcova and Madisyn Harley also had one assist each. Along with the three goals from Anderson and two from Csejka, Thalia Steenssens assisted on four of the five goals for Boston University. Caroline Kelly made 12 saves, as the Terriers out of the Patriot League improved to 8-7. The Black Bears, who with a win would of tied a program record for consecutive victories at 11, fall to 11-4 on the season. They take their 5-0 America East record into a home conference matchup with Vermont on Friday at 3 p.m.
