After an opening goal by Sidney Crosby unassisted 30 seconds into the first period for Pittsburgh, Boston took a 2-1 lead when Charlie Coyle and Jakub Lauko tallied at 5:19 and 13:20. It was all Penguins though in the middle period, as they would score four times in a span of just under 10 minutes on markers by Evgeni Malkin, Josh Archibald, Bryan Rust, and Rickard Rakell to take a 5-2 advantage. The Bruins began the comeback when Brad Marchand scored at 12:57 on the powerplay to cut it to 5-3 headed to the third. Pavel Zacha made it 5-4 at 11:59 of the third, before Taylor Hall sent the game to overtime on the extra man and with the net empty at 18:43. Lindholm completed the comeback victory skating out of his own zone from behind the net, and going coast to coast with a wristshot that beat Pittsburgh goaltender Tristan Jarry glove side from the left faceoff circle.

Jeremy Swayman had replaced Linus Ullmark in net for Boston, after Ullmark had allowed five goals in the first 31:36. Swayman though left with injury 5:42 into the third period after being crashed into by his own teammate Patrice Bergeron. Ullmark ended up finishing the game and had 29 saves, while Swayman who is still being evaluated stopped all four he faced. Lindholm led all skaters with one goal and three assists. Jarry made 34 saves in the loss for Pittsburgh, who falls to 4-4-2. The Bruins (9-1-0) are back in action Thursday night in New York against the Rangers.
