PCHS 2022/2023 Girls Basketball preview

December 8, 2022

P.C.H.S. Pirates Girls Varsity Basketball

Coach:

Head Coach: Jessica Bell (first year)

Assistant Coach: Jenifer Goulette

Last Season Record: 5-8

Expectations: “The Lady Pirates are expected to bring a fiesty defensive intensity to games while working on developing an inside and outside offensive game,” Bell said. “The girls are expected to play with good sportsmanship, teamwork and bring 110% to every play.”

Strengths: “The Lady Pirates will bring a strong defensive presence to games with an experienced senior group and a hungry freshmen class,” Bell said “We have a strong team mentality with no single key player. Everyone contributes relatively evenly and every player works hard until the last buzzer sounds.”

Weakness: “Although there are four returning seniors, the Lady Pirates are a very young and inexperienced team. About 70% of our team are freshman or sophomores,” Bell said. “Our team is in a building phase and generally lacks experience at the high school level of play.

Key Returning Players: The strong senior class includes Kendall Kimball, Abbey Ricker, Brylee Ricker and Katelynn White who will bring their experience and leadership to the floor.”

Key Newcomers: Notable freshmen include post player Ava Goulette and guards Brooklyn Hunt and Hope Hunt.

Schedule: The Pirates open the season on December 10th at Lee Academy. PCHS will play their home opener on December 12th against Greenville. They will also host Penquis the next night. Eastern Maine Sports Media will have live coverage of the following Pirates games- January 2nd home against Lee, January 7th home against Valley, January 14th at Penquis, January 27th home against Dexter, January 30th home against Central, and February 2nd at Dexter.
