Reed’s career high 23 lifts the Howlers past the Lynx

At Lincoln, senior Gabe Reed netted 21 points through three quarters and finished with a career high 23 points to help propel Penobscot Valley to a 45-37 win over Mattanawcook Academy in both team’s season opener.

The Lynx jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the first quarter led by Carson Munson, who finished a traditional 3-point play with an “and-1”, as well as hit a corner three. PVHS responded though, with all their points coming from Reed as they narrowed the gap to one (10-9) by the end of the quarter.  Reed led the surge again in the second quarter with six points, as the Howlers built a 22-17 point lead by halftime. Isaac Doore chipped in with four points during the frame, whild Colin Harding scored three. The Lynx received points from Justyn Colorado, Matt Heeren, James Trott, and Munson.

Penobscot Valley outscored Mattanawcook 13-7 in the 3rd quarter to get a little breathing room and an 11 point lead. It was Reed and Doore again doing most of the damage offensively, combining for 11 points, while the Lynx. got contributions from Munson, Erik Fitch, and Andrew Oliver.  The Lynx outscored the Howlers 14-10 in the fourth, led by three-triples from freshman Avery Jordan, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
In addition to Reed’s 23 points, other scoring totals from PVHS included 14 points for Doore, five for Harding, two for Kaden Loring, and one for Colin Dunn. The Howlers will travel to Bangor Christian on Tuesday.

Mattanawcook Academy was led by Munson’s 10 points, and received contributions from Jordan (9), Fitch (6), Justyn Colorado (4), Joe Vicaire (3), Oliver (3), James Trott (2), and Heeren (1).
