DOVER-FOXCROFT- Pierce Walston scored 21 of his game high 30 points in the second half to lift Orono to a 64-53 win over Foxcroft Academy on Tuesday night.
The Ponies were ahead 30-26 at the half, but the Red Riots came out strong in the third quarter, scoring the first nine points. Orono outscored Foxcroft 18-13 in the quarter to take a 44-43 lead into the final eight minutes of play. Walston had 12 of the 18 Orono points in the quarter.
Walston and the Red Riots secured the win from the free throw line. They went 11-14 as a team in the final quarter, including Walston going 9-10. For the game, Walston went 16-18 from the line.
Ellis Spaulding put in eight points, while Brady Hews came off the bench to make two 3-pointers. Noah Schaff had five points and nine rebounds. Walston also had five rebounds, three assists, and two steals, he was named Bangor Savings Bank player of the game. Orono (3-0) will play at Bucksport on Thursday night. The Bucks will also come into the game with a 3-0 record.
Caden Crocker and Adam Conner scored 13 points each to lead the Ponies. Crocker also had eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Jackson Smith came off the bench and had 12 points and four rebounds. Jadon Richard added nine points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Foxcroft (2-1) will host Washington Academy on Friday.
