DOVER-FOXCROFT- In makeup games that were scheduled to be played last Saturday, the Presque Isle Wildcats made the trip south to Foxcroft Academy on Friday night for a boys/girls Class B Big East doubleheader on the final night of the regular season.

In the boys game- Malachi Cummings had a game-high 39 points (25 in the second half), as visiting Presque Isle led from start to finish and ends the regular season with a five game win streak by defeating Foxcroft Academy 67-55. The Wildcats got 10 first quarter points from Cummings and jumped out to a 14-0 lead, and their advantage was 18-5 after the opening eight minutes. The Ponies sliced into their deficit in the second, putting nine players in the scorebook and outscoring PI 18-12 to cut it to 30-23 at halftime. The guests got 14 more points from Cummings in the third quarter to put it away, outscoring FA 19-8 leading by as many as 21 in that second half. Both teams will host a preliminary playoff game on Wednesday, as Presque Isle takes on Bucksport and Foxcroft battles MDI for a chance to get to the Class B quarterfinals in Bangor.

In the girls game- Foxcroft senior guard Annie Raynes buried a game tying three-pointer with less than 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter to force overtime, and then the Ponies outscored Presque Isle 9-2 in the extra session to take a 48-41 win. It was a very closely contested game throughout, and by halftime behind 11 points from Halle Page the hosts would lead by a slim 20-18 margin. Anna Jandreau had eight first half points to keep the Wildcats close. In the fourth quarter with the score 31-28 Presque Isle, a wild last 3:30 would send the game to that overtime period. FA went back in front when Page got fouled on a three-pointer, but missed the foul shot on the opportunity for a four point play. On the rebounding action though, Page got a steal and a layup for a 33-31 lead. PI came back with five straight points of their own on two free throws by Jandreau and a three-pointer by Jorja Maynard. Raynes tied it with a three-pointer at 36, before 1-2 from the line by Jan Curtis and a layup off a fast break by Rossalyn Buck made it 39-36 Wildcats. Raynes dialed up the three-pointer to tie it once again, and the Ponies actually had a chance to win it at the end of regulation. After a five second call on Presque Isle after a timeout, the ball went back to FA but they turned it over in the final seconds leading to a fastbreak chance for Grace O’Connell who missed a shot in the lane. Abby Knapp grabbed the rebound and dribbled just past halfcourt where she tried to hit Page streaking down the lane, but the pass was a little off and they never got a shot off in time. Page off an assist from Knapp put the Ponies ahead to stay in overtime 42-41, and Page iced it with a three point play with under five seconds left. Raynes also made a great pass for an open layup by Maddie Kimball in the four minute period to help seal the victory. Jandreau led Presque Isle (8-10) in the loss with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists. Maynard, Buck, and Curtis all had seven points a piece. Curtis also had nine rebounds. Addison Clairmont chipped in a basket for two points. The Wildcats had 28 rebounds and shot 11-16 from the foul line. Page had a game high 21 points for Foxcroft Academy (9-9) with four 3-pointers and three steals. Raynes had 13 points (three 3-pointers), six rebounds, and four assists. Raynes was named the Bangor Savings Bank Player of the Game. Also scoring in the victory was Allie Smith with six points and six rebounds, Kimball with four points and five rebounds, Destiny Weymouth had three points, and Knapp had one free throw for one point. The Ponies had 27 rebounds and shot 7-12 from the free throw line.
