BANGOR- Madelynn Deprey scored 16 of her game-high 28 points in the second half Friday evening, as the #2 Caribou Vikings pulled away from the Foxcroft Academy Ponies for a 68-39 Class B girls quarterfinal win at the Cross Insurance Center.
#7 Foxcroft (10-10) never led, as Deprey had nine in the first quarter and Liv Adams had seven off the bench as Caribou broke out to a 22-12 lead after one quarter. The Vikings led 35-19 at the half. Annie Raynes did her best to keep the Ponies in the game with six points in the third period, as FA was hanging around down just 38-26. Caribou used a 13-2 run though to put it away as Deprey had nine in the third and seven more in the fourth to help advance her team to a Wednesday 10 a.m. semifinal against #3 Ellsworth.
Deprey made it a double double as she added 10 rebounds in the win for 16-3 Caribou. Adams had all 11 of her points in the first half, and also added six rebounds. Madelynn Morrow and Abby Haney both had eight points, Carly Morrow had six, Selena Savage five, and Ainsley Caron chipped in a basket for two points. Raynes had 19 points and seven rebounds in the loss for Foxcroft. Abby Knapp contributed nine points and 11 rebounds, Sam Ossenfort had four points, Halle Page and Allie Smith had three points a piece, and Kierstyn Nuite added a free throw for one point. The Vikings outrebounded the Ponies 35-21.
