Calais boys survive against a tough PVHS squad in the quarterfinals

BANGOR- Jacob Sockabasin and Evan Gillespie both scored in double figures on Tuesday night, helping to lead the top seeded Calais Blue Devils to a tough 46-36 Maine Principals’ Association Class C boys quarterfinal win over #8 PVHS at the Cross Insurance Center.

Calais was in control in the first half, but would have their lead cut to a single point in the third quarter, and led by just six at the end of the third period before hanging on behind five points in the final frame by Gillespie. Gillespie would come up huge for the Blue Devils scoring nine of his 11 points in the second half as well as adding five rebounds, four assists, and some stellar defense in the rest of the game. Sockabasin would lead the way with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks which were team highs in all those categories. PVHS was led by Caleb Moon who would score 11 on the night off the bench, while Colin Dunn would lead the team in rebounds with five. Isaac Doore, who was huge in making the game close for the Howlers, would score all of his nine points in the third quarter. Calais (16-3) will advance and play Fort Fairfield (15-5) in the semifinals on Friday. The Howlers season comes to an end with a 11-9 record.
