Maine baseball headed to Florida for the NCAA Regionals

May 29, 2023

After winning their first America East Championship since 2011 on Saturday, the Maine baseball team found out on Monday that they’re traveling to Florida to compete in the Coral Gables Regional in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.

Maine (32-19) will be facing #9 and the host Miami Hurriances in that first round on Friday at 7 p.m. Miami (40-19) lost in their championship game of the ACC Tournament on Sunday to Clemson.

Louisiana (40-22) and Texas (38-20) are the other two teams in the double elimination regional and will meet at 2 p.m. Friday to get things underway. The Ragin’ Cajuns are the runners-up of the postseason Sunbelt Conference Tournament, while the Longhorns would also finish as runners-up in the postseason Big 12 Tournament.

The Black Bears enter the field on a seven game winning streak, beating Binghamton 6-1 to capture the America East Title. The last appearance for Maine was 12 years ago in the Chapel Hill, North Carolina Regional where they lost to the UNC Tarheels, beat Florida International, and were eliminated by James Madison University. UMaine, Texas, and Miami have some history as they were all part of the 1981, 1982, 1984 College World Series together.
