Husson Athletics begins fall season with three wins

The Husson University men’s and women’s soccer teams, and the field hockey team began their 2023 season on Friday and by the end of the day would score three non-conference victories.

At Boucher Field in Bangor- Leonardo D’Amico scored in the 82th minute to lead the Husson men’s soccer team to a 3-2 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Florian Gasser and Mario Alvarez also scored for the Eagles. Jacob Dukeshire tallied both goals for WIT, the second of which had given his team a 2-1 lead before the equalizer by Alvarez and winner by D’Amico. Carlos Galloni and Samuel Bermudez both played in net for Husson, with Bermudez making three saves. Pedro Molina and Hugo Llopiz also both added one assist. Husson plays again at home Sunday at 3 p.m. when they take on Emerson College.

 

At Clemente Field in Boston, Massachusetts- Addi Laslie scored the lone goal in the 63rd minute in leading the Husson women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Emmanuel College.

Emmanuel had the advantage in shots attempted 10-5, and in corner kick opportunities 5-1, but goalie Madison Weigler was able to stand tall for the Eagles in stopping all four shots she faced that were on goal for the shutout. MacKenzie Lambert added an assist on the Laslie game winner. Husson returns to action on Sunday when they host Marian University at 12 p.m.

 

At the Winkin Complex in Bangor- Teagan Blackie had two goals to help power the Husson Field Hockey team over Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) 5-0.

Julia Murch had what turned out to be the game winner 12:02 into the first quarter. Blackie scored in the second and third quarter, while Allison Drew and Phoebe Carlock also registered a goal each. The Eagles had a 26-2 shots attempted margin (11-2 on goal), and a 16-1 advantage in penalty corners. Kimmie Goddard made one save for the shutout in net. Husson is back at it on Sunday when they travel to Vermont to take on Vermont State University-Caselton at 12 p.m.
