Elijah Garnett had 126 yards rushing with two touchdowns, and Ja’Quan Myles had 145 yards receiving and a score in leading the Husson University Eagles to a 31-13 non-conference football win over the Alfred State College Pioneers at Pioneer Stadium in Alfred Station, New York Saturday afternoon.
Husson (2-1) took the lead and would never relinquish it when Garnett scored on a three-yard run almost six minutes in. Alfred State College (1-2) would answer six minutes later with a two-yard touchdown run by Jake Palmer, but had the extra point blocked by Tyrek Mann. Myles found his way past the Pioneers defense less than a minute after the Palmer score, catching a 64-yard TD pass from Nic Visser. Garnett added a short scoring run early in the second, as the guests led 19-6 at the halftime break. Josh Graham got ASC within 19-13 on a two-yard touchdown run with 7:47 left in the third quarter, but the Eagles put it away in the fourth on a Visser five-yard scamper into the endzone and a short TD run by Jed Lober to finish the scoring.
Visser went 15-23 passing for 228 yards and a touchdown in the win, and also had the rushing score in the fourth quarter. Garnett had his two touchdowns and 126 yards on a total of 24 carries, while Myles caught six passes for his big day through the air with 145 yards and a touchdown. Tucker Buzzell and Adam Brown had big days to lead the defense. Buzzell had 13 total tackles (8 solo), including four tackles for loss and three sacks. Brown had 11 total tackles (10 solo). Justin Horvath was 19-27 passing for 154 yards in the loss for Alfred State College. Palmer rushed for 71 yards on 18 attempts and a touchdown, and Graham had three carries for 59 yards and a score. Ben Ba led the Pioneers receivers with 73 yards on five receptions. Husson continues non-conference play next Saturday when they play host to Anna Maria College at the Winkin Complex for homecoming with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
