Lady Howlers blank Bangor Christian, improve to 12-0

October 10, 2023

In Bangor Tuesday afternoon, PVHS girls soccer got two goals within the first ten minutes of the game en route to a 5-0 victory over Bangor Christian.

Sophomore Lila Cummings broke the scoreless tie nearly seven minutes in, when she fired a shot from just outside the 18 yard line that barely snuck under the crossbar and over then hands of goalie Sarah Brown. Less than three minutes later, Cummings sent a pass to junior Ellie Austin who was able to get a step around the outside defender.  Austin drilled a low shot that found the back of the net.

With just under 19 minutes left, leading scorer Rylee Moulton would get her first goal of the game off a Cummings assist.  Moulton sent a low liner that skipped under the dive of the keeper into the left corner.  The sophomore would score again just a few minutes later on a counter-attack.  Penobscot Valley’s Brooklynn Raymond served a punt that found its way to Austin’s feet, and Austin quickly sent a nice through-ball to Moulton who went one on one with the goalie and pushed the ball in the left corner of the goal.

Only one goal was scored in the second half, and the dynamic sophomores were credited yet again. Cummings managed to get a step around the right defender, got to the endline, and sent a perfect low pass across the box near the PK line. Moulton one-touched it into the right corner for the hat trick and her team-leading 28th goal of the season. The assist was Cumming’s team-leading 18th on the year.

Raymond and the Lady Howler defense registered their 7th shutout on the year, and fifth straight. She stopped all five shots on net, as PVHS improved to 12-0 and will host Hodgdon in their home finale on Thursday.

Brown turned away 22 of 35 shots for Bangor Christian, who finished their regular season at 7-7 and will now await the seedings for the playoffs.
