October 14, 2023

The Boston Bruins got two powerplay goals, including the game winner on the extra man by James van Riemsdyk Saturday night to get past the Nashville Predators 3-2 at TD Garden in Boston.

Nashville (1-2) took their only lead on a snapshot from the high slot by Sissons 3:29 into the first period, set by a drop pass from Kiefer Sherwood. Boston tied it on the powerplay later in the first at 14:48 when van Riemsdyk got credited for his first of the night when his centering pass went off the body of Predators defenseman Dante Fabbro and into the net. The Bruins took the lead at 14:46 of the second, when David Pastrnak was hooked and was awarded a penalty shot. Pastrnak converted a hard wrister past Juuse Saros for his third goal already on the season. Sissons second of the game came on a delayed penalty call, tipping in a point shot by Roman Josi at 16:54 to even it up again 2-2. The winner by van Riemsdyk came 2:52 into the third period and was also a tip-in off a point shot by Charlie McAvoy to help Boston move to 2-0. Nashville had plenty of chances which was the story of the game, as they went 0-7 on the powerplay and Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman came up with several big stops in his first start of the young season.

Swayman had 33 saves on 35 shots in the win. Along with the two goals from van Riemsdyk, Pastrnak had a goal and an assist and McAvoy had two helpers. Filip Forsberg and Tyson Barrie added one assist each for Nashville, and Saros had 28 saves. Boston now heads out on a four game road trip including three in the state of California, beginning with a matchup in San Jose against the Sharks on Thursday night at 10:30 p.m.
