At Narraguagus Saturday morning, the Penobscot Valley girls soccer team erupted with 10 first half goals on their way to the 13-0 victory over the Lady Knights and in the process ended their regular season with a 14-0 record.
The first goal occurred less than three minutes in, when Ellie Austin scored unassisted to get things rolling. Over the next 37 minutes, the Lady Howlers received goals from Lila Cummings (3), Brooke Champion (2), Rylee Moulton, Aubrey Dionne, Marlee Stonecipher, and an additional score from Austin. The goals by Dionne and Stonecipher were their first of the season for PVHS.
The second half saw Moulton, Austin, and Stoncecipher finding the net again before the twenty minute mark occurred, signaling the official end of the game with the new mercy rule in place. The two teams continued playing to give reserves some more playing time, and both Champion and Stonecipher scored yet again, giving each three on the day.
In addition to Dionne and Stonecipher netting their first, sophomores Cummings and Moulton both notched their 50th career goals for the Lady Howlers. Overall, official goals were scored by Cummings (3), Austin (3), Moulton (2), Champion (2), Stonecipher (2), and Dionne, while assists were dished out by Cummings (3), Moulton (2), Savannah Durost (2), Eve McNally, Lauren Veino, Emma Potter, Abby Farley, and Mia Neal.
Penobscot Valley will likely finish in one of the top two spots in Class D North. Brooklynn Raymond and the defense secured their sixth straight shutout to end the season, and eighth overall allowing only six goals on the year. Raymond recorded one save.
Sarah Grant saved 22 of 47 shots for Narraguagus, who are now 0-11 and will travel to George Stevens Academy to wrap up their season on Tuesday.
