A historic season for Maine women’s soccer ends in the first round of the NCAA Tournament

In their first ever NCAA Division I Tournament game, the Maine Black Bears women’s soccer team had their season ended on Saturday evening by falling to #4 Harvard 3-0 at Jordan Field in Boston, Massachusetts.

Harvard came out attacking, as they really dominated the entire match both offensively and defensively. The Crimson would get the eventual game winner by Josefine Hasbo in the seventh minute, assisted by Hannah Bebar. They continued the pressure and was awarded with two more goals in the first half that would finish the scoring. Bebar scored one of her own assisted by Gabby DelPico in the 23rd minute. Anna Rayhill also tallied unassisted in the 40th minute, as the Ivy League Champions would move into the second round.

Kira Kutzinski made eight saves in goal in the Maine loss. The Black Bears were held to just two shots on goal, ending their season with their first ever America East Championship and a final record of 11-2-6. Denver Tolson stopped two shots in the win for Harvard, who improved to 13-3-2. The Crimson will head to Michigan State to take on the Spartans in the second round on Thursday.
