The Penobscot Pioneers girls ice hockey team scored three times in the first period and didn’t look back on Saturday evening, opening the new season with a 7-2 victory over St. Dom’s at the Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer.
Meghan Delahanty, Jordin Williams, and Anna Malloy scored those first period goals, with the last two by Williams and Malloy both coming shorthanded. The Malloy marker was the eventual game winner. Ella Davis also scored her first two career goals, while Delahanty scored her second of the night and Delaney Carr also notched a tally to finish the scoring for the Pios. Abbie Derosier picked up the win in net with 21 saves. Williams finished with a goal and four assists, Delahanty had two goals and one assist, and Isabelle Brideau also contributed three assists. Georgie Davidson scored twice for the Saints of St. Dom’s, and Alana Wheeler made 52 stops in net.
The Penobscot Pioneers are in their second season of girls high school ice hockey, a co-op team consisting of players from Brewer, Bangor, John Bapst, Hermon, Hampden, Old Town, and Orono. The Pios went 14-3-1 in the regular season in their inaugural year in 2022-23, falling to Yarmouth in the North Regional Final.
