Caribou sweeps Foxcroft Academy in a boys/girls doubleheader on Saturday

DOVER-FOXCROFT- The Caribou Vikings made the trip South to Foxcroft Academy on Saturday afternoon for a boys/girls Class B basketball doubleheader. At the end of the day, Caribou headed back North with two decisive wins.

In the boys game- A second quarter run that stretched into the third lifted Caribou to a 66-46 win over Foxcroft. The Ponies had a couple seven point leads in the first half, before the Vikings took their first lead on a layup by Tristan Robbins with 1:55 left in the second quarter. After FA took back a slight one point lead, Caribou got a three-point play from Robbins to take a 30-28 advantage into halftime. The guests would open it up in the third period, by scoring the first 10 points to cap off an overall run of 13-0. The Ponies didn’t score until there was already four minutes gone in the stanza, as Caribou improves to 6-2 on the season.

Robbins led all scorers in the victory for Caribou with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Kaymen Sargent added 22 points (13 in second half) and 10 rebounds. Also contributing was Dylan Bouchard with six points, Sam Hebert with five, Braden Brescia with four, Dawson St. Pierre with two, and Owen Corrigan with a free throw for one point. The Vikings won the rebounding battle 40-21 and shot 4-11 from the free throw line. Jackson Smith led Foxcroft (4-3) in the loss with 10 points and five rebounds. Silas Topolski had nine points. Also chipping in was Niska Jasovic with eight points and five rebounds, Jadon Richard with seven points, Lucas Sands with six points and five rebounds, Wyatt Rayfield with four, and Ashton Ade with two. The Ponies shot 5-9 at the line. Caribou returns to action on Wednesday at Presque Isle, while Foxcroft is at Orono on Thursday.

In the girls game- Caribou got a big performance from Madelynn Deprey and led from start to finish in a 68-38 win over Foxcroft. The Vikings got out to a 19-6 lead after one quarter, and led by 18 at halftime in pulling away to improve to 4-3 on the season. Deprey had 20 points in the first half alone.

Deprey led all scorers in the win for Caribou with 32 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, nine steals, and two blocks. She was 8-8 from the foul line and hit two 3-pointers. Liv Adams added 12 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Also contributing to the victory was Brianna Levesque with eight points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals, Amelia Godin with six points, Brynne Hamilton and Kayden Guerrette with four each, and Madelyn Morrow with two. The Vikings won the battle on the glass 33-22, and shot 11-19 at the line. Halle Page led 1-5 Foxcroft in the loss with nine points. Addie Day had eight points and three steals. Also chipping in was Allie Cook with seven points, while Sam Ossenfort, Allie Smith, and Payson Hall had four each. Madyson Kimball also had two free throws for two points. The Ponies shot 4-10 at the line. Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, as Caribou travels to Presque Isle and Foxcroft hosts Hermon in a contest that can be seen on Eastern Maine Sports Media with the pregame starting at 6:45 p.m.
