Byther powers Old Town to quarterfinal win over Hermon

BANGOR- The Old Town Coyotes went on a 28-8 run in the first half and rolled to a 58-34 win over Hermon in a MPA Class B boys basketball quarterfinal game played Friday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.

Hermon held a 9-6 lead in the first quarter. Brendan Mahaney and DJ Francis each hit a three pointer to give the Coyotes a lead they wouldn’t give back. Old Town outscored Hermon 20-6 in the second quarter, sparked by two dunks from Emmitt Byther. Grayson Thibeault and Byther combined for 17 points in the quarter.

Byther had 19 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals to lead the way for the Coyotes, Thibeault had 14 points and five assists, Aiden Gomm added 11 points and three assists. Old Town (16-3) will play Maranacook or MDI in a semifinal game on Wednesday.

Madden Henderson had a team high nine points for the Hawks. Hermon finishes the season with a record of 11-9.
