BANGOR- Addison Cyr had 20 of her game-high 28 points in the second half, and Mattanawcook Academy outscored Machias 37-16 in the final 16 minutes of play in pulling away for a 70-40 Maine Principals’ Association Class C girls basketball quarterfinal win Tuesday night at the Cross Insurance Center.

Mattanawcook never trailed, but were definitely challenged by Machias especially in the first half. A basket by Kristin Grant in the second quarter allowed the Bulldogs to close within 17-16, after trailing by as many as seven early on. The Lady Lynx got some breathing room by ending the period on a 16-8 run for a 33-24 halftime advantage. Cyr then took over, as she scored 12 of her teams 21 points in the third quarter as MA built a 20 point lead and had a 15-0 run at one point. The final margin of 30 was the largest lead, as they move on to the semifinals on Thursday night.

Cyr finished with a double double as she added 15 rebounds to her game-high point total for #4 Mattanawcook Academy (16-3). Kaitlyn Thornton contributed 10 points and nine rebounds, and Lily Wotton along with Megan House had nine points a piece. Wotton also had nine rebounds.
