BANGOR- Mason McDunnah had a game-high 16 points on Wednesday night, as the unbeaten Schenck Wolverines built a 19 point lead and led from start to finish in defeating Katahdin 50-42 in a Maine Principals’ Association Class D boys semifinal game played at the Cross Insurance Center.

Schenck showed why they’re the only undefeated boys team in Northern Maine, as they used their strong defense to build a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The Wolverines scored the first eight points, six of them from McDunnah, and had a 12-2 lead after the opening eight minutes while not allowing a field goal from the floor by Katahdin. The Cougars were able to cut it to 18-10 in the second on a bucket from Josh Martin, before Schenck took a commanding 16 point advantage to the break at 26-10 with an 8-0 run.

A basket from Sam Jacobs gave Schenck their biggest lead of the game in the third quarter at 40-21. Katahdin wouldn’t go down easy though, as they got a three-pointer from Calvin Richardson to end the period and then scored the first seven points of the fourth (10-0 run) to slice it to 40-31 with still 5:37 left to play. The Wolverines had five different players score in the final eight minutes as they pushed their lead back to 14 a few minutes later in advancing to the North Regional Final on Saturday afternoon.

McDunnah added seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals to his game-high point total in the win for Schenck (20-0). Brady McAvoy had 10 points and seven rebounds, Owen Wyman contributed nine points and eight rebounds, while Jacobs chipped in six points. Connor Edwards led Katahdin in the loss with 10 points and five rebounds. Richardson and Josiah Rodgerson (3 three-pointers) both had nine points, while Martin had eight points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots. The Cougars end their season at 17-3.
