Calais boys advance to second straight regional final

BANGOR- The Calais Blue Devils were able to keep the upset minded Hodgdon Hawks at bay on Thursday afternoon with a balanced scoring attack, advancing to the regional championship game for a second straight season with a 42-27 win in a Maine Principals’ Association Class C boys semifinal game played at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Hawks kept it close after the first quarter as they only trailed 13-9. Brody Little led the Hawks with five points in the opening period, and Cyran Ciarleglio added four points of his own. The Blue Devils pulled away in the second, as they doubled their first quarter output with 26 points including a buzzer beater by Philip Bassett.

The Blue Devils owned the second half both on the scoreboard as well as on the offensive and defensive glass. Calais scored seven points in the third and nine in the fourth quarter, while Hodgdon scored nine in the third quarter and three in the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils outrebounded the Hawks 14-12 in the second half.

The Hawks were led by Little who had 11 points and nine rebounds. Daniel Henderson contributed six points and seven rebounds. Ciarlegio had four points and five rebounds. David Tuttle and Wyatt Oliver rounded out the scoring with four points each, as they end their season with a record of 16-4.

Calais was led in the scoring column by Jeremy Turner with nine points, eight rebounds, eight steals, and five assists. Frank Miliano added six points. Bassett also scored six points with five steals. Kason Dana, Oliver Clark, and Kaden Small added seven points a piece. The Blue Devils improve to 17-3 on the season and will tip off against Mount View on Saturday night at 7:45 p.m. trying to defend their Class C Northern Maine Title.
