Bradly Nadeau helps Maine end their three game losing streak

February 23, 2024

Amidst their first three game losing streak of the season, the #9 Maine men’s ice hockey team would respond on Friday night. Bradly Nadeau had two goals and one assist, and Sully Scholle scored a game winning first period goal in a 5-1 Hockey East win over Northeastern at the Alfond Arena in Orono.

Maine got off to a great start, in attempting to give Northeastern some payback after the Huskies scored five times in the third period to beat them 6-3 three weeks ago in Boston. The Nadeau connection opened the scoring in the first period. Josh Nadeau skated down the right wing, and kept it on his stick behind the Northeastern net before sending a pass from the edge of the left faceoff circle to Bradly Nadeau in the low slot for a one-timer that found the back of the cage at 6:10. Bradly hadn’t scored a goal in the previous nine games.

Scholle got the game winner just 1:21 later, set up for a one-timer from the low slot by Harrison Scott to make it 2-0.

Cam Lund scored the lone Huskies goal at 11:51 of the second, before Lynden Breen ended a streak without a goal or a point by tallying at 15:51 to give them a 3-1 advantage through 40 minutes. Breen hadn’t found the back of the cage in the previous 12 games, and was without a point in seven straight.

Bradly Nadeau got his second of the night at 5:06 of the third period, and Parker Lindauer finished off the Black Bears scoring with his first collegiate goal at 10:27. It ends a five game winless streak for Maine against Northeastern (0-4-1 previously), and is just their second victory over the Huskies in the last 15 meetings (2-12-1).

Along with the three points from Bradly Nadeau, Breen had the one goal and added one assist in the Maine win. Josh Nadeau was also a multiple point scorer with two assists. Scott, Nolan Renwick, Nicholas Niemo, Thomas Freel, and David Breazeale contributed one assist a piece. Freshman Albin Boija made 32 saves in net, as the Black Bears improve to 19-8-2 and 11-7-1 in Hockey East. Cameron Whitehead made 30 stops in the loss for Northeastern, who falls for just the second time in their last nine games and is now 14-14-2 (7-13-0 in the conference). Both teams went 0-2 on the powerplay. The finale of the two game series is Saturday night at 7 p.m.
