Dexter rallies in second half to win second straight regional championship

BANGOR – The Dexter Lady Tigers rallied in the second half to grab a 28-23 win over Penobscot Valley High School in the MPA Class C Northern Maine championship game played Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Center. It is the second straight regional title for Dexter.

Dexter jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Howlers followed with the next 15 points, including the final nine points of the first quarter. Dexter scored the final four points of the second quarter to cut the deficit to 15-9 heading into intermission.

The Lady Tigers continued the run into the second half scoring all 11 points of the third quarter, making it a 15-0 run. Mazie Peach had six points and two blocks in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Peach finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and three blocks to lead the Lady Tigers. Hannah Dean added six points and four rebounds. Dexter (20-1) will play Hall-Dale in the state championship game on Saturday, March 2nd at 7 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.

Rylee Moulton and Mia Neal had eight points each to lead the Lady Howlers. PVHS finishes the season with a 18-3 record with all three losses coming to Dexter.
